Pisces Birthstones

Pisces is a water sign. They are characterized by empathy and emotional capacity.

Pisces are more intuitive than others and have an artistic talent. Since their ruling planet, Neptun is connected with music, Pisces reveal their tendencies towards music early in life.

They are selfless, faithful and caring. Since they're very spiritual (more than any other sign), they're often focused on their inner journey.

People born under the Pisces sign have an intuitive undersatanding of the life cycle and thus achieve the best emotional relatnship with other beings.

I am surrounded by Pisces, mostly males- my husband, dad, uncle, friends. My best friend (female) is Pisces and is actually my husband's astrological twin, though I don't find them very similar expect for the music and spirituality.
The common thing that I found in them is they're emotional, dreamers, some of them going to melancholy and even lethargy. But above all, they're mostly reliable, feel for others and want to help.
The Pisces I know have lots of friends and love to keep everyone around them happy.

History of Jewelry- Prehistoric Era

It was just very obvious for me to start the blog with a look back at the history of jewelry. Being art historian and archaeologist, I love digging up history and researching information. And what better way of doing that but combining my two passions- jewelry and history?

Ever since the prehistoric era, people adorned themselves with different pieces of jewelry to show social rank, status, religious rank, personal adornment, or to protect against evil eyes, sickness or bad luck, for the same reasons it is worn even today. The materials they used were found in nature or through the hunt: shells, wood, feathers, bones, later in history- metals. Early humans were practical, they would use everything form the hunt: skin for clothing, meat for food and the teeth, horns, claws as personal decorations.

Recent research showed that even the Neanderthal loved to accessorize. Colourful shells, dated 50.000 years ago, were found in Spain. These shells were painted with grounded pigments made of minerals and the interesting thing is that these pigments, i.e. dies were found near the painted shells.The Neanderthals were actually intelligent beings, and this jewelry just shows that they had the ability to think symbolically. 

Some scholars think that they imitated the early modern humans, while others agree that these examples are Neanderthal independent creations.

What did we learn? If you want to impress a Neanderthal- wear some jewelry. :)

Let me introduce myself

I am archaeologist and art historian by profession. Coming from a family of architects, it was inevitable for me to love architecture and any kind of art, geometry, symmetry, composition, colors etc.

My parents are very hands-on type of people, from my mom's beading, sewing, knitting and other crafts, to my dad's painting, fixing things at home (even the car) to making handmade photo-album covers with silk thread.

So using my hands to create something came very natural. Having several hobbies at the same time was normal, and still is. Some of the projects that I'm working right now include making jewelry, trying to knit my scarf and finish my sewing projects that I started eons ago. (yeah, I am Gemini).

I started making jewelry while I was attending university when I found my mom's beads from the 70's. I had no idea what to do, so slowly through a lot of trials and mistakes I managed to learn by myself. Finally I got an opportunity to take silversmithing jewelry courses. I was amazed and fuled my passion for jewelry making even more.
